HAPPY FEET
Kiwanis of LBI is making a difference in the lives of homeless veterans, homeless families, and abused women with children in need by giving them a new pair of socks, preventing common foot ailments, reducing bacteria warming their feet and bringing dignity to a person’s life.

BIKE SAFETY RODEO
For elementary school children.

Kiwanis and UNICEF have joined together to eliminate the deadly, but highly preventable, maternal and neonatal tetanus disease. The Kiwanis Club of LBI has been officially recognized as a model club by Kiwanis International. We had pledged to raise $30,000 a few years ago. We are pleased to report that the pledge has been fulfilled to help acquire the necessary supplies, skilled staff, equipment and transportation to reach mothers and babies in remote areas with little or no access to health care.

Kiwanis of LBI participates each year in the Kiwanis International Signature project. The needs of children and families in our community are evaluated then we design a service project, such as reading programs, school supplies, safety programs, etc. to meet those needs.

IDD – Iodine Deficiency Disorder

IDD – IODINE DEFICIENCY DISORDER

in 1996 the Kiwanis of LBI club added its support to Kiwanis International Worldwide Service Project to help eliminate Iodine Deficiency Disorder (IDD) throughout the world. IDD, the world’s most serious cause of birth defects, mental retardation & thyroid issues, can be eliminated by the simple means by providing iodized salt to the people in underdeveloped countries at the mere cost of 5 cents per individual. During the life of that program our club & its members contributed more than $15,000-enough to cure 300,000 children. We were one of the very few clubs in the New Jersey District to have contributed that much to support IDD. As a result of individual contributions and five club memberswere named as George F. Hixson Fellows by the Kiwanis International Foundation-the first members of the club to be so honored. The members goven this honor were Judge M. Edward Defazio, Hartley Field, John P. Gamache, Elizabeth G. Waterfield and Randolph Waterfield.
